NAIDOC Week 2014

Members of the Lightning Ridge community are invited to attend the Official Assembly marking the beginning of NAIDOC Week in the Gym of Lightning Ridge Central School on Monday, June 23 at 9:25am. NAIDOC Week allows for the celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The theme for 2014 is "Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond" and honours all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have fought in defence of country. These courageous soldiers have helped to shape our identity as a nation and we take this opportunity to honour their contributions and reflect on their sacrifices.

This is a great occasion for people to share time with the school community and there will be a Community Morning Tea in the Old School Building following the Assembly. The Annual Elders' Luncheon will be held on Monday, June 23 at 12:30.

There will be a host of activities scheduled throughout the week including Indigenous Games, the annual Careers Expo and a free BBQ on Thursday, June 26 at 1:30 pm. This BBQ is sponsored by Barriekneal Housing and community members are cordially invited.

More details next week. Please come along to the school and celebrate NAIDOC Week with us!
